Aloy may be a force to be reckoned with in the battlefield but she can’t cook her own food. That said, she’ll have to rely on Cooks to provide her with various helpful dishes. Major settlements have Cooks. Just bring the required ingredients and pay them a small amount of shards and they’ll be able to provide Aloy with different dishes and delicacies that apply various beneficial effects like improving her passive skills and boosting her max HP. You can further prolong food buffs by learning the Food Duration skill under the Trapper skill tree.

Not all cooks offer the same dishes. Usually, you’ll find food dishes local to the area. If you need food with specific effects that you want, you’ll have to visit the same cook from a specific settlement. The ingredients required by some cooks are also found within the same region or immediate area. Dishes also have quality or rarities, which will determine how long the effect lasts and what effect has applied.

By default, you can only carry two food items at a time. Upgrade your Food Pouch to increase the number of food items you can carry. Food items can be set and used via your Hunter’s Kit (the quick access menu in the lower-left corner of the screen.)
