Save Ammo Early

Athough there is a large array of guns available you will feel ammo starved during the early part of the campaign. To begin with choose guns that are high damage, low magazine, and low fire rate. All the guns use the same ammo pool and doing this will allow you to save ammo and still do the same amount of damage as other types of weapons.

Refill Ammo

You will want to max out the magazines of your guns in preparation for an upcoming boss fight. Keep an eye out for the Marcus Munitions vending machines that are scattered around zones as these pit stops allow you to do this for a small fee. Just press the 'Refill Ammo' button as you are facing the machine and it will instantly stock you up.

Check Gun Fire Modes

A number of the guns you will find in the Borderlands 3 arsenal of loot feature alternate fire modes so make sure whenever you equip one you check its in-game description from your inventory to find out what it does. If it is a gun that has an alternate fire mode you will be able to switch between them at any time using the D-Pad to deal with enemies accordingly.

Recover Loot form Sanctuary III

Enemy loot dropped during battle that you did not pick up will be deposited into the Lost Loot machine at the lost loot section of your headquarters aboard Sanctuary 3. If you open up the machine you will be abe to recover the weapons you left behind available to equip, completely free of charge. However, the Lost Loot machine only works with higher level items like Blue (Rare), Purple (Epic), or Orange (Legendary) loot.

Level Up

Make sure you focus on leveling ups as doing so is essential to surviving during battles with the enemy. From unlocking Skill Points to increasing Weapon stats, leveling up is a must. You can get more XP quickly to level up by completing side quests and farming previously defeated bosses.

Complete Side Missions

Don't ignore the the otpional side missions some of the missions in Borderlands 3 offers. These side missions are connected to the campaign and will provide extra rewards upon completing their objective, such as extra XP for leveling up and rare weapons that cannot be found anywhere else.

Keep Moving

Bear in mind if you find a place to hide behind for cover that certain objects and evironments in Borderlands 3 can be easily shot through or destroyed completely with bullets and explosives. With this in mind, the best strategy for combat is to stay mobile.

Complete Crew Challenges

A new feature in Borderlands 3 are the Crew Missions, these basically involve finding collectibles such as Typhon Logs and Claptraps. When you complete all the listed objectives of the Crew Mission in a single zone, you will be rewarded with unique loot and gear. You can keep track of each Crew Mission easily from the map section of your menu.

Equipping Guns

Although there is a huge arsenal of guns available in Borderlands 3 there are only six types of ammo; Pistol, Assault, SMG, Shotgun, Sniper, and Heavy. Don't equip two guns that use the same type of ammo as they will run out at the same time. It is better to use one gun with one type of ammo and store the other gun with another type of ammo in your backpack. As you continue to level up you can visit Marcus aboard Sanctuary III to buy some of his Storage Deck Upgrades (SDUs) to expand your carrying capacity.

Elemental Barrels

In Borderlands 3 the Vault Hunters are able to punch explosive barrels that are scattered around the battlefield into enemies form afar so they detonate on impact. To do this you simply have to get up close to a barrel before it's combusted, face the direction you're aiming and hit it using the melee button. This is particularly useful to deal area of effect damage if you have run out of grenades.
