How to Unlock Weapon and Item Slots

When you begin Borderlands 3 you will only be able to swap between two equipped weapons and the only gear you will have access to is a shield and a grenade. Eventually as you progress through the game two more weapon slots will become available along with Item slots that will enable you to equip Class Mods and Artifacts. Over the course of the game two more weapon slots as well as Class Mods and Artifacts slots will become unlocked that will enable you to equip. If you move through areas particularly fast there is the possibility you will start to find items you will not be able to equip because you do not meet a specific requirement. If you find any Class Mods before defeating the boss, Gigamind in the Hostile Takeover story mission you should store them for safekeeping in your Player Bank found in Sanctuary III's Crew Quarters.

Unlock 3rd Weapon Slot:

Your 3rd Weapon Slot will unlock after leaving Pandora for the first time, completing the Taking Flight and Sanctuary quests at are your 4th and 5th main missions.

Unlock Class Mod Slot:

Your Class Mod Slot will unlock after helping Rhys out on Promethea and defeating the boss and completing the quest Hostile Takeover, which is your 6th main mission.

Unlock 4th Weapon Slot:

Your 4th Weapon Slot will unlock after completing the first vault mission in the main story, Beneath the Meridian, which is the 10th main mission.

Unlock Artifact Slot:

Finally, your Artifact Slot will only unlock after taking on another Vault quest called Cold as the Grave, which is the 16th main mission.
