Challenge: #8 Cat Got Your Tongue

Description: The Cat Got Your Tongue challenge requires you to run to the Depths II and defeat Mom without the ability to shoot tears. You start with three red hearts, three soul hearts and three dark hearts. You start this Challenge with the Guppy transformation.

Unlock: You unlock this challenge by transforming into Guppy. Transforming into Guppy is accomplished by picking up three of the Guppy items (Guppy’s Paw, Guppy’s Tail, Guppy’s Head, Guppy’s Collar, Guppy’s Hairball or the Dead Cat).

DESCRIPTION: Guppy is a transformation achieved by picking up three of the Guppy items. It gives you the appearance of a cat, to let you know you have met the requirements of the transformation. The Guppy transformation gives you the ability of flight. It also spawns flies for every attack connected with an enemy.

Strategy: Without the ability to shoot tears, your only means of spawning flies is to deal damage with your hairball or Guppy’s Head. Since you have the ability of flight you will find it much easier to fly over an area enemies can’t normally reach to swing your hairball through to hit them. In this run you should be looking for every follower that shoots tears. Your followers tears will spawn attack flies, even though you are not shooting tears directly. The more followers you have the more flies you will be able to spawn. Hive Mind will once again be a huge help in this run. Even if you don’t have the followers to spawn extra flies, the increased damage from the ones generated from Guppy’s Head and Guppy’s Hairball will make a big difference. Also, if you can afford the health, picking up the sharp plug will allow you to continuously spawn flies in every room. You don’t have to necessarily swing Guppies Hairball to do damage. You can simply have enemies walk into it as you trail it behind you. Guppy’s Hairball also blocks small projectiles from enemies.

Completion: Completion of this challenge unlocks the Rune of Algiz.
