A few Rebels have been left behind after the evacuation, fight through Imperial forces in order to escape.
As Imperial forces seize control over the snow planet of Hoth, the last Rebel ship leaves with you left behind. Admiral Ackbar soon realizes his mistke and scrambles his best technicians to help you.
Hold out until the Rebels can unlock the Imperial flightcodes that are locking the base down and then use one of the snowspeeders to escape and re-nite with the Rebel Fleet. Trust your instincts, and may the Force be with you.
Once again we go into the fight but, this time we have some pretty defend-able places to use and in particular the base. So the drill is simple - we begin by very quickly - as fast as we can - obtaining all five collectibles and then we find ourselves a place we can put our back to the wall and take on all comers.
When it gets to the point - and it will - that you need to re-supply - you head out and just do it. Hit the markers, claim your kit, then get back into cover.
When the AT-ST Walkers arrive you will have to emerge to lob grenades at them, sure, but then you can take cover and wait for the timer to refresh so you can lob another grenade.
For this one we recommend taking the default Survivor Card Hand but YMMV.

As you can see ducking out of cover to pick up lifes, charges, and pods is actually easily done and safe with the exception of when you end up dealing with a Walker - which can make you dead. But still, fun, right?
