How to Choose Weapons

In New World there are a total of 10 different weapon types and unlike a lot of MMOs you are not locked into using any of them. It's entirely up to you which weapons you choose and level up. The weapon types that are available are the Sword, Hatchet, Rapier, Spear, Great Axe, Musket, War Hammer, Bow, Ice Gauntlet, and Fire Staff. Before you decide which weapon types you are going to invest time and resources into, you should take the time to try each of them out. This is something you need to do as quickly as possible at the start of the game and while doing so you also need to take into account the time it takes to level the weapon, and how your base attributes line up with the specific weapon.

Taking into consideration which attributes a weapon affects is particularly important, as some weapons will draw upon attributes like Strength, which will give you bonuses towards the use of heavy weapons like hammers and battle-axes. Other weapons when you invest attribute points into them will give you Dexterity which will substantially improve your skill with the use of weapons such as rapiers and hatchets. You can check to see which weapons an attribute affects and how much it affects it by going to the 'Attributes' menu.

Once you reach a certain level with any of the weapons in New World, you will unlock the ability to equip two weapons, which you will be able to easily toggle between during combat and use to hit combos. The best tactic when you have made your decision as to what weapon you want to use is to stick with it and use the same attributes in order to increase your effectiveness with that weapon type. Although you can feed attributes for two completely different types of weapons, you have to remember that doing so will spread your attribute points thin and make you weaker.
