After you have created a character in New World you will be placed into a starting area, these low-level starting locations include Monarch's Bluffs, Windsward, Firstlight, or Everfall. The chances of you and your friends being thrown into the same area is unlikely, this How to Change your Starter Zone in New World guide will tell you what you need to do to join up with your friends if you plan on playing with them.
Unfortunately, at the start of New World you are not given an opportunity to decide the location where you start in the game, you will just be randomly placed in one of several starter areas which will probably be somewhere different to your friends you intend to play with. To make matters worse, the first few hours in these starter zones are tied to the game's main questline. There is a way to get around this, Instead of blindly restarting and hoping for the best that your new starter zone will be the same as your friends.
What you need to do is play the quest of the starter zone you began the game in and then after completing the first part of it, which is immediately after finishing the tutorial opening, run to any of the other marked starting areas to complete the quest. As long as you do not accept the second part of the first quest, you will be free to join up with your friends at whatever starting area they have been placed.
