How to Customize your Deck in Loop Hero

At first glance Loop Hero looks like a simple deck-building roguelike but once you begin playing you quickly discover it is actually a complicated game. The biggest problem is that the further you progress into the game the more new content you unlock and it is crucial that you pay attention to all these mechanics at once as you need to know how each of the cards interacts, what enemies will be spawned by placing combos, and also what you must unlock to progress in the game the way you want.

Know Your Class

To simplify things you should just focus on the character class you are using and the different kinds of cards that will benefit them. All three of the classes in Loop Hero require specific stats which can only be gained from certain cards, and it is these cards you will need to obtain to improve.

Understand Card Combos

It is essential that you understand how the card combos you can place down in Loop Hero will affect the game. You do not have to memorize them all but you should be familiar with as many different card compos as possibly, especially those that are connected with the character class you are using. Knowing what card combos you want to make will make the process of assigning cards to your deck easier. Take a look at our Best Card Combo guide to find out how you can use the cards in your deck to farm more resources and acquire better gear.

Build Different Decks

Not only should you build your deck around the class of character you use but you should also build different decks that are based on what you are trying to accomplish during a run, whether it is to defeat the boss or just to farm low level enemies to build new things back at your base. If you are unable to defeat the boss on a run you will have no other option but to farm resources in order to strengthen your deck. Take a look at our How to Farm Resources guide to find out how you can acquire them easily. Always check your deck between every run to see what can be switched out to improve it for your next run.

Always Keep Useful Cards in your Deck

There are some cards in Loop Hero that you should constantly have in your deck regardless of the character class you choose. These are the cards that can create certain card combos that when placed down at any time on the map will substantially boost your characters stats. Two in particular that are always useful are Blooming Meadows which Heals 3 HP at the start of each day and Mountain Peaks which boosts HP even more. In order to create them you will need to always keep Mountain and Rock cards in your deck. Oblivion is another card you should always keep in your deck as it can instantly remove a problematic tile or creature on the map. Take a look at our How to Use the Oblivion Card guide to find out more about this powerful card in Loop Hero.

Rarely Necessary Cards

There are some cards in Loop Hero which you should avoid altogether unless there is a circumstance where they are specifically required such as summoning a certain enemy. Cards like Dunes, Deserts, Forests, and Thickets are pretty much worthless most of the time and the only time you should have them in your deck is to satisfy certain build requirements. An example of this is the Forest and Thickets cards for the Necromancer class.

Deck Size Matters

It is not always necessary to carry the maximum amount of cards in your deck. There will be instances where doing this will be a burden and hinder you. It is important to keep in mind that the fewer cards you have in your deck the greater the chance you will have of drawing the specific card you want rather than ones that will not be useful at that time. Before each run you should take a moment to think about your current situation and what you are trying to accomplish and determine how many cards you want in your deck based on that.
