Chapter 2-2: Old Crag Mine

Time to explore the mines. Kill the first couple goblins you see (one is an archer) while the Doctor mentions they dug these tunnels looking for relics. You'll soon come to a new enemy: a lightning bug that shoots a weird green energy beam at you. He can do this twice in a row fairly fast (much like an archer) and can also generate a shield around itself for a short time (do *not* jump into this). He also has a close-up melee move (that you probably won't see if you attack right away). Still, he's pretty easy, you can just dodge and counter-attack as usual. Continue on around the corner to deal with two more enemies, then break the upper wall (to the right) to find some good sunstones behind it. Be sure to break the red thing for relics as well.

Head down the next hallway and kill the bugs, then continue on to meet a new type of goblin. This guy is much bigger than the ones you've been killing up to now and he has some armor and a club to boot. Watch out for his wide swings as he can crush and kill you *very* quickly. Your goal here is to wait until after his second swing and then quickly get in there to punch him afterward. He will take a number of hits to take down (you got to break the armor) but he isn't to hard if you keep on hitting. The path opens up once he's dead.

More traps will show up now, so avoid them and kill the two small goblins and lightning bug in the next hallway. The next big room has two bigger goblins in it, so focus on one at a time to take them out (or use a power!). Continue to the right to see a scene where the doctor will point out a "building" where relics are usually found. Interesting.

To the right you'll find another lighting bug and a relic box. Kill and collect, then search to your immediate right for a breakable rock wall leading to...

HIDDEN CHEST #4:

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Right after the "relic building" scene, head to the right to find a cubby with a lighting bug. Search to the right to find a breakable wall with a treasure chest at the end.

Continue down the path (watch out for falling rocks) and soon you'll see another cut-scene. After the scene, you'll have some fighting to do. You'll be facing four goblin soldiers here. It is a good idea to use a power move here (Storm or Shockwave) due to their numbers. If you don't, be ready to dodge sword swipes (again, at least two in a row) and attack quickly afterward (jump attacks are often safer than rushing in if your timing is bad). Two more goblins will come to party once you take out the first group (conveniently giving us a path out of here) so take them out and continue on.

Grab the relics you find (which make you huge) and jump down to fight three more goblin soldiers (attack them quickly to take care of them easily), then grab even more relics. You'll be quite big now and will automatically move the tank out of the way.

KNACK SMASH! Once you move the tank, head forward and destroy all the rafters you come across. You can pretty much destroy any small and regular size goblins with ease now, as you'll see once you get past the cave hallway and can destroy the goblins you find. Jump past the fence and continue wreaking havoc. Head up the stairs and you'll soon come to a hallway where you'll see a door to your left. Ignore it for now and head further in to see a short scene.

After the scene head to the generator and press Triangle to power it back up. This brings power back to this section of the mine (and ends the big-Knack party time). Now you should backtrack a bit to that door back in the hallway and hit the switch to open it to find...

HIDDEN CHEST #5:

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

After powering up the first generator in the mines, backtrack and open up the door in the hallway (hit the switch) to find this treasure chest.

After that, go hit the switch by the generator to open the way forward. Here you'll meet a new type of foe: the (bigger) goblin archer. He is a *lot* more deadly than the smaller archer goblins. For starters, he can fire a charged-up power shot that will just plain decimate you if it hits. Before it hits though, the game will give you a split second to dodge out of the way. He can do this move even if you are jumping (and yes you can still dodge). Other moves that you should know about include a three-shot arrow barrage (you can jump over this as he fires horizontally) and he can even smack you if you get too close (your timing will have to be bad to get hit by the close-up smack move). In general, you want to always target this guy first and can easily close in on him by jumping his triple-shot move and dodging his power shot.

Take a moment to get used to the goblin archer's attacks (it will help in the future), then close in on him and take him down. Take out the two small goblins after him and then hit the switch to open a door. Inside is a lightning bug and some sunstone. Further in are two more small goblins (one is an archer) and a number of arrow traps. Beware of the traps on the rocks and just do a double-jump in-place to avoid them (jumping backwards will often make you land on the arrow). Grab the relics past the traps and head forward to see a (really cool) scene.

Head down the walkways now and beat up the first small goblin you see. Coming up is a big archer on another walkway, so be sure to dodge charged shots and ump non-charged shots. Continue on to a wider area with two small goblins and a bigger club goblin. Take out the small goblins first so you have time for the big one. Past that is another archer, so be careful on your run up to him then drop down to the platform below. Grab the relics here and move out onto the bridge for another scene.

Once you regain control, head up the nearby rock steps (they fall afterwards - how is the doctor even following us!?) and kill the lightning bugs. There's some more bugs to kill further on before you have to climb up a pile of rocky outcroppings. Keep plugging along and you'll soon have a small and large archer shooting down at you. Kill the small one first (its just easier) then the big one. Past them is a club goblin and another archer (aim for the archer first). After killing them both jump for the ledge behind the archer to see another scene.

After helping the doctor you'll face another club goblin and archer. This archer is pretty far back but you should still aim for him first. After killing them both a wall will drop (you gotta love these sentient "walls") and you'll need to kill two more melee units. You'll have a small climb after that (there's relic bricks at the top) before you jump down and take on two small archers and a club goblin (again, go for the archers first).

Jump up the path that opens and you'll see two melee units and an archer. This is a great spot for a Blast attack but if you don't want to waste it take out the archer and be careful with the melee guys. You'll see a scene here ending this part of the chapter.
