Top 10 Starter Pokemon

#2 - Torchic

It was a bit of a tough decision, but in the end, Torchic ranks second. Torchic is the highest ranked Hoenn Starter Pokemon and the highest ranked Fire-Type Pokemon on our list. Just kidding... It's not the highest ranked Fire-Type; we all know who that is. Torchic itself isn't too great, but that often doesn't matter when it comes to Starter Pokemon. Torchic evolves into Blaziken, and that's all that really matters.

Torchic has an okay design. I'm sure most people would still rank Treecko as the best Hoenn Starter Pokemon Design, and for good reason to. Torchic is just a baby chicken, not as cool as a lizard who chews on a twig. But, like mentioned above, design is not why Torchic became so popular.

Blaziken being Torchic's final evolution is the sole reason as to why it became such a popular and good choice as a Starter Pokemon. Blaziken is probably the best, if not one of the best, sweepers in all of Pokemon. Blaziken wasn't always that way though. It wasn't the best choice as your Starter Pokemon in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Mudkip was clearly the better choice for the Gym Leaders and Elite Four. Fortunately, the creators gave Blaziken an awesome Hidden Ability: Speed Boost. Speed Boost Blaziken has amazing power, and the speed that it needs to back that power up. Mega Blaziken also received Speed Boost, making it one of the best Mega Evolutions. Because of Speed Boost, Blaziken/Mega Blaziken has become one of the best competitive play Pokemon, as well as a great choice for the third generation remakes (Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire).

Blaziken is amazing, which means Torchic is also. It not the only Starter Pokemon that basically relies solely on its final evolution for its ranking. I mean... Look who's ranked number one...
