Top 10 Legendary Pokemon

7. Shaymin -- Land Form: Grass Type -- Sky Form: Grass / Flying Type

The hedgehog-like Grass-Type Legendary, Shaymin was officially revealed in February 2008, when it was listed as a star of Giratina and the Sky Warrior. Later that year its Sky Form was revealed, which adds Flying-Type as its secondary Type, though it should be noted that Shaymin can only change its form through the Gracidea item during certain hours of the day.

From its original Land Form it can transform into its secondary Sky Form during the day, using the Gracidea flower, transforming it into a very dashing appearance quite unique from its hedgehog Land Form.

It must be noted that despite it being a Legendary, there are in fact regular Pokemon of the Grass Type that are more powerful, and more versatile -- but this is not a list of those, it is a list of the Top 10 Legendary after all.

Shaymin enjoys numerous high-powered special moves (particularly Psychic) and boasts a base stat of 100 spread across the board, making it a very effective DD.

That being so it stands out among its Type due in part to its signature move Seed Flare, which it should be emphasized has no nasty side effect when used (such as the Special Attack like with Leaf Storm) and Seed Flare has the chance of the bonus effect of cutting an opponent's Special Defense in half, which happens more often than not.

Unfortunately it also feels the typical Type weaknesses -- particularly versus Fire, Flying, and Bug attacks. When facing a particularly strong opponent, its ability to use both Seed Attacks to both drain life from the opponent and restore its own HP in combination tends to balance out the risk vs rewards formula.

Unfortunately this is an event-only legendary Pokemon, which means that if you do not already possess one, you will need to find a mate who does and get them to show it to you to add it to your Pokedex, then trade for it via online in-game trade. There is a rumor that it may be offered as a Wondercard WiFi event, but this has not been substantiated by Game Freak or Nintendo.
