How to avoid Rats in A Plague of Innocence

While trying to escape the Inquisition one of the biggest threats that Amicia and Hugo will encounter are rats which are everywhere spreading the plague and devouring everything in their path. Knowing how to avoid rats is an important part of A Plague of Tales: Innocence as they their presence indicates impending death.

Light

In A Plague Tale: Innocence the best way to avoid rats is to stay in the safety of light as the brightness repels these creatures. Once you have met Lucas you will get access to Ignifer Crystals, a burning projectile that can set objects ablaze. Using Amicia’s catapult, you can launch them at lanterns and bales of hay to light them on fire, creating a safe pathway of light which rats will not impede on. The big problem though is they burn out very quickly which basically means you can only use them to move short distances.

Meat

Another way to avoid rats is to use meat, whether dead or alive as a decoy so you focus their attention away from you. There are two ways that you can use meat to feed rats, you can either give them live bait by turning off the light of an enemy's lantern or torch either by using a stone in Amicia's slingshot to smash a lantern or by using the Extinguish projectile which extinguishes burning objects. The other way is to have meat hanging on a chain and then using the slingshot to shoot at the mount of the chain.
