Can't remember where you get the materia, you find it somewhere.
The games not that hard, controls are easy to get used.Cant really say how long it takes to complete as you can get sidetracked doing mini missions and so(Very addictive). The best way to earn money is to fight alot gaining money and exp.

You first get the Enemy Skill materia on the 67th floor in the Shinra Building. Once you have beaten the boss known as H0512 it should be in the elevator IT came up. Not the one you came up. You'll see it easily.
Anyway this game takes me about 30-35 hours since I do EVERYTHING in the game when I complete it mostly.
The best way to make money is to MASTER an All materia and sell it. You get 14 million gil for it.

Later on, like on disc 2 or 3, you - I think, kinda forgot - can get enemy skill materia/s easily. Honestly, I've never mastered an enemy skill materia yet. I will tell you this: a bit later, you can go back to fight the Midgar Zolom. I think it has 2500 HP. Try not to kill it, so you can get the enemy skill "Beta" which is a fairly powerful fire-based attack, after you learn Beta, just kill him.

This game's hard to some people, and easy to others. Most RPGs are like that. FF7's relatively easy, but sometimes you need to go somewhere to train for certain boss battles. I think it took me - don't criticize, my characters weren't exactly perfect... - about half a year to beat Diamond weapon(I tried to fight it like 10 times, then gave up for a while, then when I played it after about 6 months I beat it the first try.) My actual play time was like - the first time, puzzles - maybe 7-8 hours.

FF7's definitely a keeper of a game, it tests your strategies, you have to think in order to beat it, and so on. My characters, Cloud, Vince, and Cid, are in their lvl80's, but I still haven't got a gold Chocobo yet, and I've played - current data - for nearly 90 hours. I have over 3.7 million gil right now... Ultima Weapon, Death Penalty(I think is Vince's ultimate weapon) and Venus gospel, I don't use them because of materia growth. Sorry if this is a bit long, seeing as I'm just boasting...

I wouldn't give up my copy of FF7 unless it was broken, or something like that.
