I am having some problems with my materia. For some reason, the AP I am awarded with isn't increasing the levels of most of my materia (i.e., Mime, 2x Cut). It increases the levels of HP plus, but that's about it. Am I doing something wrong or does the materia need to be in a certain slot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes the slot does matter!!

If the weapon/armor you have the materia equiped to has "no growth" for AP then only the obvious will happen, you wont get any AP.

Now if you do have the materias on a weapon/armor with AP growth then just be patient because it takes like (just off the top of my head) 100,000 to level up.

Ok it may be 500,000 but i am not to sure just chek the materia's "next level".

I should also suggest having maybe the Rune armlet or Cloud's Apocalypse or any item with double and triple AP to speed the process up faster.

There are monsters called Movers which give insane amounts of AP and they are found in the North crater inside the swamp area.

Also a monster that can only be hurt after giving them an Elixer and they are just as good for leveling up and they are in the same place as the Movers.

Yes, you do need to have it in the right slot.

Putting it in an ultimate weapon will cause it not to grow.

Cloud's Apocalypse and Cid's Trident triple your AP so they are excellent if you want to level up your materia, especially mime and K.O.T.R....!
