If you are using Vista, which personal is the best operating system, rigt click the shortcut, go to porpeties, compatabily, run as Xp and you can run in small screen.

I'm not sure if this is true for anyone else's computer but if it helps at least on my computer when I bring up the original sims 2 game it comes up in small screen and when I click on the expansion pack version it comes up in full screen. I would also suggest checking options the next time you play the game. Other than that, I'm not sure
