treasure thingy

In the treasure chest thingy you can only go in at night in the market, how the heck do you beat it!? I mean seriously!!

You need the Lens of Truth to see inside all the chests to find the keys inside to progress.
You get the Lens of Truth from the dungeon inside the well at Kakariko Village. To gain access to this dungeon, you need to learn the Song of Storms from the guy inside the windmill as an adult, then play that song in the windmill as a kid.

I agree with the first answer, it's a long drawn out process but not only do you need the lens of truth for that. It's essential in the rest of the game. I did learn though, when I was young and stubborn (I wouldn't go down the well to save my life). I learned that it's a pattern and it stays the same until you reach the chest the first time, receiving what's inside. It starts with left, then right, right, left, left, and then right. I don't know why it does that but don't count on it staying the same after the first time of reaching the chest. I literally proved that theory, I do hope this helps and if anything is wrong with the order you can tell me and I apologize in advance. It's been a while since I played yet I can remember that really easily.
