Copied from below:
Click on a piece of furniture while in "Buy" mode and four options appear; Inventory (looks like a backpack), Yes, Sell, and a gray button with a circular arrow in the middle of it and a chunky arrow on the outside of it. Tap this and the furniture will turn around. The chunky arrow outside the circle shows you which way the furniture is facing so you don't accidentally set it turned the wrong way.

You go to build mode and there's a rotate sign when you press the item, and to move the item you drag your finger.

Click on the house symbol and then specifically click on the furniture item and move it.

Make sure you are working in the furniture mode. If you are in the house mode you may end up removing the whole room. There is a circular icon that helps with turning the furniture.
