How to clear your Xbox 360 system cache

Published by SuperCheats Staff on Jun 27th 2013

Some issues with your console can be resolved by deleting its cache of temporary files and data. Game updates, system update installation files and gamer pictures of your friends are usually stored in the system cache.

Clearing the cache removes previously downloaded game updates and patches. You will be prompted to download them again the next time you attempt to play the game while connected to Live.

Clearing the cache will NOT remove the following items:

  • Your gamer tag

  • Downloadable content

  • Game files

  • Console software updates

Clearing the System Cache

  1. Press the Guide button and go to Settings.

  2. Select System Settings then choose Storage or Memory.

  3. Select any device then press Y in the controller. It doesn't matter what device you select since all storage devices' cache will be deleted.

  4. Select Clear System Cache

  5. A confirmation screen will appear. Select Yes.
