Added:

As you play through Sea of Thieves, there will be find several different items that you will find that you will actually need in order to be successful. Whether that means you will use them while fighting, exploring, hunting, gathering or simply to boost the morale of your crew, you will need these items, twelve of which to be exact, to properly make it through the game. You will be able to use almost all of these items indefinitely at the start of the game, but there are a few that have maximum limits [such as bananas (5), cannonballs (10) and planks (5)] and some that must be found on Islands, in Outposts, and within barrels. (Most items even have many variations of each.)

List of Items In Sea of Thieves

Banana: Bananas are one of the few foods items you will find within the game. By eating them, you can heal your pirate from any damage they have taken. Bananas can also be used to help lure Pigs into crates. They are found within the barrels on your Ship, as well as one a number of Islands.

Bucket: You won't be using your bucket all that much on your adventure, but it's necessary to have if you're Ship ever has a breach and you need to remove the water that has found its way in.

Cannonball: The cannonball is your primary resource for Ship-to-ship combat, as you need them to load into your Cannons in order to fire at other ships and enemies. Always stay fully stocked on these items to protect both your ship and your treasures aboard.

Compass: The compass might not seem like much, but you will probably use it most of among all of the items you can have. This is because you will need your compass to properly guide you from island to island during your Voyages, allowing you not to get lost at sea.

Concertina: The concertina is basically an accordion you can use to play a song. Once you have one, you can hold down the Action Button to begin to play. By releasing the Button and then holding it down once again, you will actually change the song that plays. The concertina can also be used with the hurdy gurdy or other conertinas (played by other pirates) in order to play a song.

Hurdy Gurdy: The hurdy gurdy is basically a mandolin you can use to play a song. Once you have one, you can hold down the Action Button to begin to play. By releasing the Button and then holding it down once again, you will actually change the song it plays. The hurdy gurdy can also be used with the concertina or other conertinas (played by other pirates) in order to play a song.

Lantern: Like the bucket, the lantern will have limited uses along your journey. Outside of lighting a dark path, you won't be using it all that often. Still, it will definitely come in handy.

Plank: You won't be using your planks all that much on your adventure, but they're necessary to have if you're Ship ever has a breach and you need to quickly Repair the hole before your ship begins to sink.

Pocket Watch: Like the compass, your pocket watch will play a key role during your Voyages. If you ever have a time related Quest or riddle, you will need your pocket watch to keep you on track of time.

Shovel: Since you are a pirate, you will obviously need a shovel to dig up any and all buried treasure you find. The more people that dig for a treasure, the faster it will be found.

Tankard: The tankard is an item that can be filled with Grog at both taverns and on your Ship when you are away on a Voyage. This is a leisure item above anything else, allowing you to drink your fill.

Telescope: Like the compass and pocket watch, the telescope will come in handy along your Voyages. It will allow you to zoom in on Islands that are extremely far away, as well as helping keep a lookout for enemy ships nearby. it is best used on the Crow's Nest of your Ship.
