How To Kill Krakens

Krakens are giant creatures of the seas found in Sea of Thieve, visible at even a distance, almost serving as a boss enemy of the game itself. These creatures have eight tentacles that rise from the depths of the ocean, ones that can completely destroy your sailing vessel. This is why fighting a Kraken is a such a dangerous feat, and it is why you should try to avoid them at all cost if you are able to.

Krakens appear in the sea randomly, being able to sprout up anywhere at any given time. Luckily, they only appear for those traveling in a Galleon, since larger crews are really the only ones that can defeat one. So if you're doing Solo Run on a Sloop, you will always be safe from these creatures. If you are sailing in a Galleon, you will always know a Kraken is dead ahead by how the surrounding water will suddenly appear extremely dark (regardless of the time of day or weather that is occurring). The waters are so dark that you won't be able to sea below the surface of it! As a Kraken appears, your Ship will also stop dead in it tracks, not be able to Sail forward until you have fought the creature.

After the Kraken appears and its tentacles starting coming out of the waters, you will need every last member of your crew to help kill the beast. As it waves its various tentacles through the air, the suction cups at the end of its tentacles will begin to open and form a mouth of sorts. After it does, it will attempt to strike your Ship or even one of your crew members.

If you are on the receiving end of one of the tentacles, you must do all you can to hit it with a cannonball or break its line of sight. If you don't, the tentacle with grab you and hold you high in the air. From there, it will either slam you back into your Ship or send you flying through the air and straight into the ocean below. It's possible to free a player that is being held hostage by a Kraken by shooting a number of cannonballs at the base of said tentacle, but the chances of doing so are very slim.

As you are facing a Kraken, make sure to always have one crew member repairing the damage to the Ship. Outside of this one crew member, all the rest of them should continuously be firing Cannons with all they have at the eight tentacles of this beast. Should the Kraken try to wrap its tentacles around your ship, momentarily leave your cannons in order to strike said tentacles with your Cutlass in order to remove them.

If all of your crew members do as they should, and if you have a little luck on your side, you might have a chance at taking down a Kraken. Should you be able to defeat it, you actually, unfortunately, will not receive some grand reward. Instead, all you will earn is one of the forty-five different Achievements. Once the battle is over, make sure to Repair your Ship before proceeding onward.
