Pokemon Blue Key Items
Unlike the newer Pokemon Games where are hundreds upon hundreds of important items, there are really only seven Key Items your trainer will use in their efforts to Catch Em All and become a Pokemon Master.
Old Rod: Doesn't do much besides help you catch Magikarp, but it can help you get a strong Gyarados on your Team early on your journey. It can be obtained from the Fisherman in Vermilion City.
Good Rod: The Good Rod, on the other hand, can help you find a variety of Pokemon to fill up your Pokedex. It can be obtained from the Fisherman in Fushcia City.
Super Rod: The last of the Fishing Rods, and it allows you to find rare, high-leveled Pokemon across the region. It can be obtained from the Fisherman on Route 12.
Map: You wouldn't believe how often you'd look at your Map, especially if you're a brand new to Pokemon. The Map is crucially essential in the beginning, and even when you're hunting for Pokemon in your Pokedex. You obtain it from your Rival's Sister in Pallet Town after receiving your Pokedex.
Poke Flute: This thing's only use is for the Snorlax on Routes 12 and 16 that are blocking your path. It has no other use, but at least it helps you get through the game. You obtain the Poke Flute form Mr. Fuji after saving him in Pokemon Tower.
Bicycle: Really the only to go through your game until you have the ability to Fly from place to place. You can obtain it for free from the Bicycle Shop in Cerulean City with the Poke Voucher, which you receive from the Poke Fan Club President in Vermilion City.
Masterball: The only PokeBall that has an automatic capture, which you can use on any Pokemon, specifically Mewtwo. You obtain only one during your journey, and that's from the Silph Co President after defeating Team Rocket in Saffron City.
The Poke Flute is more useful than just waking up Snorlax. It can be used to wake your sleeping Pokemon in and outside of battle, saving you money on Awakening.
