Pumpkins can either be grown manually using pumpkin seeds or they spawn naturally in Plains, Swamp, Savannah, Jungle and Taiga Biomes. If you carft 1 torch 1 pumpkin you will create 1 Jack O 'Lantern which are illuminated Versions of pumpkins and provide a light level of 15 which is the same as the sun, fire, lava, Glowstone and Redstone lamps. Jack O'Lanterns can be used as a cheaper replacement for Glowstone as you do not need to go to The Nether and unlike torches they can be used underwater. Pumpkins cannot be placed without a block being under them and they will not get destroyed if there is no block beneath them.
