Playing Harvest Moon seeds of memories highly involves meeting and talking with everyone in town—it’s practically the same idea or Gameplay Mode practiced in almost all Harvest Moon franchise. From the time you arrive at Chestnut Town, the task of socializing will already begin. The first part will usually involve a quick tutorial with your friendly Harvest Sprite named Rowan on how you should begin taking care of your farm and the importance of restoring everyone’s Memories by simply carrying out the task of nurturing the abandoned farm.

To begin talking to people, it is important to be able to distinguish between two of the game’s basic game modes: the Talk mode and the Farm mode. As stated in previous pages, the Farm mode is used when engaging with any task that involves farming, Mining, fishing, foraging, cooking, etc. – practically anything that involves work related to your farm. Meanwhile, the Talk mode is a game mode that is used to socialize and meet people around town.

Why the need to talk to people when you can just get along with focusing work on your farm? Well it’s basically because part of your task as the hero of the farm is to help restore people’s memories. The only way to do this is by performing tasks related to their memories (see our Memory Guide) or by developing your relationship/friendship levels with everyone.

The level of relationship you have with everyone in town is measured by Musical Notes—the more Musical Notes you scored for each person, then it means that you are closer as friends. One simple way of increasing the number of Musical Notes per person is to shower them with gifts. Although shoving every single thing to their faces is not recommended since giving them something they dislike may harm your relationship with them. Therefore, make sure to get to know what they like as a person by talking to them and taking note of them or perhaps by simply visiting our Character guide to discover what items each person likes and dislikes.

Talking with villagers does not require, nor consume, Stamina so you don’t have to worry about saving or replenishing your Stamina whenever you speak to people. The only thing you may have to spend Stamina on is acquiring things those people like (by farming, cooking, Mining, etc.).

Once you have garnered at least 2+ Musical Notes in your relationship level, these villagers may pay you a visit in your farm.
