It should be noted that the Missions in GTA: online are NOT the story mode of the online side of the game - though it seems a lot of players were expecting that to be the case. They are instead various challenge scenarios in which the player pits their skills and those of their mates on one team to achieve a specific goal, while another team is charged with seeking the opposite conclusion to the effort.

The Missions are not really difficulty based though they do unlock at specific key Rank Levels, so you may be better off thinking of these (and a lot of the other Jobs in the game) as the vegetables in contrast to the various character-driven story missions that serve as the meat (because surely you know you should be eating three times as much vegetables as meat, right?).

OK all kidding aside, the biggest difference between these Missions and the LTS type is that in the standard Mission format everyone who participates will be earning RP and other rewards - in theory - by completing them.

Just like the LTS version, these span a wide variety of goals and locations, and require at least a minimal coordination of effort for the members of each team -- so spending a few moments working out duties for each member of your crew (assuming you are playing these as crew Events) can make all the difference in the world.

We have noticed though that when doing these as pickup Events, with a large group of people you don't know, they tend to be more of an out-for-yourself sort of experience in which pretty much everyone is looking out for their own interests and not really focused on cooperating. YMMV.

Hot off the press (i.e. a senior Merryweather exec's email account). There are some particularly nasty Weapons in a shipping container at the Airport bound for Africa. That can't happen. You'll need a heavylift heli - I've located a Cargobob at Zancudo army base. The container will be heavily guarded by Merryweather, so you'll have to clear the area Before moving in and you can expect some company when you're in the air.

Hints and Tips: Acquire a Cargobob and then lose both the Cops and your wanted level, then head for the compound to collect the container and deliver the container to Lester.

Bust Out

I need the best for this and that's why I came to you. One of my guys has been arrested. They were holding him in Paleto County but he's being moved to Bolingbroke Prison on the next bus. Can you intervene and spring the fool? I'll make it worth your while. Bring him back to the warehouse - he can lie low here until the heat eases off. Just make sure the cops don't follow you.

Hints and Tips: Rescue Gustavo and lose the cops -- and your wanted level -- then escort him to Lester's warehouse.

Chemical Extraction

I need you to go shopping. There's a particular type of plastic explosive, that I need for a particular job, that requires a particular base chemical. I have it on good authority that a large batch of that chemical is loaded into a van ready for transportation from Humane Labs. You might need to hack the security system to get into the garage. Collect the van and drop it at my safehouse in the desert.

Hints and Tips: Go to the Labs and hack the terminal while your mates defend you -- then steal the van and deliver it to the safehouse.

Chopper Tail

Slept with a cop last night. Woke up with handcuff marks, stubble burn, and intel on a raid they're doing on one of my labs. Dunno which one, but the chopper coordinate's coming in from the North East. Ron's setup some dune buggies at a good vantage point for you. Find the cops, take 'em out, and bring any equipment they appropriated.

Hints and Tips: Go to the vantage point grab the Dune Buggy and ollow the helicopter. Protect the meth lab, then retrieve the equipment and deliver it to Trevor's trailer.

Defender

These Merryweather, they kill who they please. Life and death - the ultimate deregulation. Someone has contracted them to go after an associate of mine. He needs to get back to Mexico where there are laws against this madness. Pick him up at the airport and travel with him to the desert airfield where we have a plane waiting. There's some aid at my lockup if you need it.

Hints and Tips: Grab a helicopter and meet Madrazo's contact at the airport. Collect them and then escort them to Sandy Shores airfield.

Diamonds are for Trevor

We got Intel on a shipment of diamonds moving through Paleto Bay. Ron's been looking for some rocks to focus a Lazer he's building to shoot down alien crafts, we could also just sell 'em. Either way, they're very important for the future of TP Inc. We'll pay well and fairly. There's a boat at the Paleto jetty you can use to get away.

Hints and Tips: Steal the diamonds and take them to the jetty where you will get in the boat and take the boat to the drop off point.

Is there anybody I hate more than Merryweather's CEO Don Percival? OK, quite a few people. But he's enough of a snake to antagonize just for the hell of it. Merryweather are smuggling in some high-tech Weapons. They're currently stashed under a bridge in a shipping container so you'll need a heavy-lift helicopter. See if you can borrow one from the army base?

Remember how good it felt getting under Don Percival's skin with that shipping container we jacked from Merryweather at the bridge? How about doing it again? Merryweather have another container under heavy guard by the docks. You'll need a heavy lift chopper and something to take it out of the structure with. Come on, it will be worth it for Percival's face alone.

The FIB is using a lockup on Las Lagunas Blvd to score some prototype Vehicles equipped with new tech so siphon private data from home WiFi networks. They're watching us, I'm watching them. Can you pay them a visit and snatch their new toys? Word of warning - you'll have to hack the terminal to get into the lockup which is going to raise some bells. Expect a lot of heat.

Hints and Tips: Go to the compound and hack the terminal. Steal the Vehicles and deliver them to Lester's warehouse.

Judging the Jury

The legal system falls apart if jury members are honest. We approached twelve members of a jury, and paid them to bring down a guilty verdict. My competitor must have paid them more for innocent. Only because they took my money do I green-light all of them. Take them out quick, or the authorities will catch on.

Hints and Tips: This is simple - take out the jurors then escape from the cops lose your wanted level, and return to collect your reward.

Landing Gear

Trevor don't like cocaine, and he likes folks other than himself making money off it even less. These corporate dealer types are using Sandy Shores Airfield to move white cross country. Can you get hold of the planes, and take'em to the docks. It'll be difficult to land, so get someone on the ground to guide you in.

Hints and Tips: Steal a plane from the Sandy Shores airport and deliver it to the docks... Really.

Method in the Madness

Hints and Tips: Go to the meth lab and take out the cars and guards, then head to the meth, grab it, and deliver it to Trevor's trailer.

On Maneuvers

The Parking Garage

Methamphetamine abuse musta really taken a hold in the Lost Motorcycle Club, 'cause some of the brother are stealing satellite dishes from the communications tower behind the Vinewood sign. Ol' Ron could use those dishes to pick up on Federal, lizard, and extra-terrestrial signals, so we need 'em more than they do. Leave the trailer they got loaded in my yard.

Hints and Tips: Steal the truck and trailer and deliver it to the gas station.

Show Me the Monet

Stop the Merryweather convoy before it gets to the docks, evade the police and bring the crate back to me.

Hints and Tips: Steal and deliver the van - simpatico. Well sort of - you do not want to die on this mission since it basically resets you, so be efficient in taking out the threats.

Sinking Feeling

If you could get me that info, I'd sleep a lot better tonight.

Hints and Tips: Head to the Merryweather office and hack the terminal while your mates are defending you. Once you crack the safe (with your mates defending you), steal the briefcase and deliver it to Lester's warehouse.

Trash Talk

Los Santos isn't Liberty City, but the idiots I'm dealing with still want to be in the waste management business. They think it's a clever front for moving powder. Son strange - they must love the smell of trash. Can you stop this stupidity, wipe out the operation, and clean up El Burro Heights for real.

Hints and Tips: Go to the rival operation in El Burro Heights and destroy the garbage trucks, taking out the rival crews. At that point the crew boss will flee -- take him out.

Wet Work

I'd normally do this job, but running the operational side of the business, and my radio broadcast, I don't got time - just so you know. We need you to get a shipment of crystal the Lost have in a boat in Paleto Cove, and take it to our kitchen on Alamo Sea to be cut down. The bikers will be protecting it - look out!

Hints and Tips: Steal the boat and deliver it while taking out the Lost.
