How to Invite Friends

Far Cry 6 features online multiplayer where you can invite friends or random players to seamlessly drop into your game to play main missions, side content, and everything in between. Far Cry 6 also supports cross-generation multiplayer between PS4 and PS5 and Xbox and Xbox Series X/S players, so it does not matter what version of the console you or your friends have. You cannot however play with someone on another family of consoles, and there is no offline co-op (online only). It is important to remember that multiplayer is not available from the beginning of Far Cry 6, the opening of the game can only be played solo. It is not until you have completed the 'Du or Die' mission on Isla Santuario which takes place after 1-2 hours of playing the game that co-op becomes unlocked. After completing this mission, you will be given a flamethrower and your first Supremo backback and notified by the game that co-op is now available.

Once co-op has been unlocked, you will be able to invite your friends or matchmake with random players from the menu if none of your friends are able to play for whatever reason. To do this you need to pause the game and select the co-op icon which can be found in the top right-hand corner of the screen. All you simply have to do now is select the 'Play With A Friend' option to invite someone on your friend list. If you have no friends available but still want to play co-op with someone, then select the 'Search For A Partner' option to find another random Far Cry 6 player to join your game. If you would rather join another random player's game, you need to select the 'Be A Partner' option.

Be aware that when you join a friend or random player in co-op, the story-related trophies and achievements can only be unlocked by the host, not by the joining player. The only progress that gets saved for joining players is gathered items, upgraded items, buffs, purchased items, ammo, gadget ammo, Guerrilla Experience, and Camp Resources. Story and quest progress is not saved for the joining player.
