Gotta Catch 'Em All? Top 10 Pokedex Strategies

05. Tie-In Non-Series Video Games

The popularity of the Pokemon Empire knows no limits, so naturally in addition to the primary and main game series there are offshoots and related second and event third generation games with the Pokemon stamp of approval.

For the handheld Nintendo game consoles there is the main Pokemon game series plus Pokemon Ranger series, Pokemon Pinball series, Pokemon Trading Card Game series (TCG), Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Trozei!, Pokémon Conquest, and Pokemon Rumble Blast.

They even released a typing tutor game called Learn with Pokemon: Typing Adventure for the Nintendo DS (seriously).

For traditional Nintendo game consoles there were even more offshoot titles, many of which interconnect with the main game series on the handheld using link cables or special devices, including the Pokemon Stadium series, Pokemon Snap (which was all sorts of fun), Pokemon Puzzle League, and the voice-controlled Hey You, Pikachu! (my personal fave).

Those were just the first gen games - the next generations include Pokémon Stadium 2, Pokemon Colosseum, the previously mentioned Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire, Pokemon Channel, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokemon Battle Revolution, My Pokemon Ranch, PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, and Pokemon Rumble.

Generations V and VI saw some very interesting additions in the form of PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond, Pokemon Rumble U, and the upcoming fusion of Tekken and Pokemon for coin-operated Arcade play called Pokken Tournament which sounds like a sick and awesome game!

For many of these games there were direct or indirect links to the main game series, in many cases they actually served as sources for special and rare Pokemon, including Mythical and Legendary Pokemon! A partial listing of those connections includes:

Celebi -- Pokemon Colosseum Pre-Order Bonus Disc and a Pokemon Bank event;

Darkrai -- Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia after finishing a Special Mission;

Deoxys -- Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs after finishing a Special Mission;

Ho-Oh -- Pokemon Colosseum after purifying all Shadow Pokemon and finishing Mt. Battle;

Jirachi -- Pokemon Colosseum Pre-Order Bonus Disc. as well as the Transfer from Pokemon Channel (PAL version) after completing the game.

Lugia -- Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness after purifying Shadow Lugia.

Manaphy -- Pokemon Ranger - Transfer Pokemon Egg after finishing a Special Mission, a Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia - Transfer Pokemon Egg after finishing a Special Mission, and a Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs - Transfer Pokemon Egg after finishing a Special Mission;

Mew -- Pokemon Ranch for Wii (reward for the transfer of 999 Pokemon);

Phione -- Pokemon Ranch for Wii (reward for the transfer of 250 Pokemon);

Shaymin -- Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs - Transfer after finishing a Special Mission.

So hey! How about that? And if you thought that this sort of distribution was historically in the past, think again - Nintendo and GameFreak are STILL using it!

The most recent example is the trio of specially endowed Pokemon Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr, all with cool Hidden Abilities given to those who access their Pokemon Bank account between February 27 and November 30, 2015.

See what we mean? A solid Number 5 for our Top 10 Countdown!
