Gotta Catch 'Em All? Top 10 Pokedex Strategies

08. Pokemon Bank

While the Pokemon Bank App for 3DS was intended to serve primarily as an interactive Pokemon Storage System - think of it as an extension of the in-game PC-based storage scheme but way larger (it can hold up to 3,000 Pokemon in its 100 Boxes) it is in actuality much more than that.

Veteran players will remember Pokemon Box for Ruby and Sapphire - a disc and app for the Nintendo Game Cube that pretty much offered the same services for the GBA generation of games.

Bank is free to download but its use requires an annual subscription fee, which is $4.99 US and covers all of the services. If your subscription expires while you have Pokemon stored in the Bank you will be able to download those Pokemon to any of your games - you just will not be able to upload any Pokemon until you pay for a new subscription.

Hosted by a pleasant young woman Brigette, in addition to storing Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Box also awarded the player with special or Legendary Pokemon when they reached specific storage goals. While that pretty much sums up what Box had to offer, Brigette returns as the hostess of Pokemon Bank, and it goes way beyond the paltry features of Box!

In addition to happily storing your Pokemon from X and Y as well as Alpha and Omega, Brigette also awards the player with 100 Poke Miles when Pokemon are deposited for the first time (alternatively you can choose Battle Points in place of Poke Miles if you like). She also awards additional miles/points when you withdraw a Pokemon depending on how long it was stored.

It should be understood that Bank is not a substitute for standard game play mechanics. Specifically Pokemon who evolve via trading do not evolve when deposited or withdrawn from Bank since there is no trade or change of ownership involved in the process.

In terms of its strategy for helping you to Catch 'Em All, Pokemon Bank comes in at the Number 8 slot in our count, being the obvious path for the player to move the version-exclusive Pokemon for X and Y between them, as well as move in bulk the Pokemon from Alpha and Omega in to their X or Y main game.

When combined with the Poke Transporter side-along app Bank serves as an incredibly valuable tool in that it allows the player to move pretty much every and any Pokemon from Generation 3 forward to their Generation 6 games. In fact when this strategy is used in combination with others in the list we can say with certainty it has never been easier to complete the Pokedex in a generation as it is in Gen-6!
