How do you become a werewolf?

You get the choice to become a werewolf by progressing about halfway through The Companions questline; I don't really want to spoil it for you more than that.

If you haven't already joined up with The Companions, their headquaters is Jorrvasker in Whiterun.

You have to join the companins and then do one or more to quests and then a guy will say meet me at dark and he will take you to a cave and there will be a werewolf in there and the guy will cut it's arm and put the blood in a caldren and then you have to drink it then you become a werewolf simple

My friend says you could just find one in the woods and if it attacks you and you survive you become one?
