No, you can't mix weapons.
You play as Ada in the bonus mini-adventure called Assignment Ada where Ada explores the Island looking for five Plaga samples, and completing it will enable you to purchase the Chicago Typewriter from the Merchant in any secondary play through, although it costs 1,000,000 Pasentas.
You can also unlock Ada, Krauser, HUNK and Wesker in the Mercanaries. To unlock these characters, you need to get a four-star ranking on the Village to unlock Ada, the Castle to unlock Krauser, the Island to unlock HUNK and Waterworld to unlock Wesker. You can use any character to unlock them, but you'll need to use Leon to unlock at least one.
Additionally, get a five-star ranking on each stage with all five characters and you'll be able to purchase the Handcannon from the Merchant for 1,000,000 Pasentas on any secondary playthrough.

The Hancannon itself is actually free, but it only has a firepower 30 and 3 rounds of ammo. It costs 790,000 to max it out to firepower 99.9 and infinite ammo.

You can do both with an action replay code
Go to action replay central.com select codes ntsc {the one thats not pal} gamecube. Go to resident evil 4 and it shows you codes that ARE NOT ON CODEJUNKIES
