How to Use Refresh and Reset in Windows 8

Refreshing Your PC

    When your PC becomes slow, and you wish you could format it. The problem is that you have too much data,as well as downloaded and installed application.When you refresh your PC here's what will happen:

      Your personalization settings won’t change.

      Your PC’s settings will be restored to their defaults.

      Apps from Windows Store will be kept.

      Apps you Installed from disk or websites will be removed.

      A list of remove apps will be saved on your desktop.


Refreshing your PC can be done through the new Metro Style control panel.

What to do:

  1. Press Windows Key + C to open Charms Menu and Click Settings.

  2. Guide Image

  3. Click Change PC Settings.

  4. Guide Image

  5. Select General section.

  6. Guide Image

  7. Scroll down on the right-hand side until you see the Refresh your PC without affecting your files, then click Get Started.

  9. Click Next this option can take up to 15 minutes.

    Once that's finished, your PC is 'refreshed' with all your documents

Resetting Your PC
Reset method is restoring it to the state that you received your PC in when you bought it from the shop.Here’s what will happen to your current data and configuration:

      Any personal files will be deleted

      All configuration changes will be reset to defaults


What to do:

  1. Press Windows Key + C to open Charms Menu and Click Settings.

  5. Select General section.

  7. Scroll down on the right-hand side until you see the Reset your PC and startover, then click Get Started.

    Once you have clicked the Get Started button a banner will be displayed across the screen, explaining what will happen to your data and applications.

  9. You will be prompted for confirmation that you want to reset your PC. Click the Reset button to get started.

    Your PC will then reboot. Once it starts up again Windows will commence the Reset process
