How To Create and Use a Password Reset Disk or USB In Windows 8

If you forget your Windows password, you can use a password reset disk to create a new one. We recommend that you create a password reset disk when you create your password, so you don't lose access to your files and information.

Creating a Password Reset Disk

  1. Press the Win+F key combination to open the Search page, switch over to the Settings section.

  3. Search for User Accounts and select the User Accounts.

  5. This will take you to the User Accounts section of the old control panel. Insert your USB first and here, you can select the link to Create a password reset disk.

  7. Forgotten Password Wizard will open and click Next.

  9. Select the USB that you want to create the password key on, then click next.

  11. Enter your current password and click Next.

  13. Wait for a few seconds.Click Finish when its done. since anyone could use this to gain access to you machine you will need to store it in a safe place.

Resetting Your Password

    Once you’ve typed the wrong password Windows 8 will show a Reset password link below the login box.

  1. Plug in your USB device and hit the Reset password button, this will open a wizard, click next to continue.

  3. You’ll want to pick the right disk if you have more than one.

  5. Enter your new password,password hint and click next
