How to Bounty Hunt

One of the features in Weird West is bounty hunting, it is a straight forward activity where you kill or capture wanted criminals. It's basically cash for bodies, with the living ones paying more. This How to Bounty Hunt guide will tell you everything you need to know.

Any playable character in Weird West can partake in the activity of bounty hunting, not just the hero called the Bounty Hunter. In order to do so you must first make your way to the local bounty board and seek out the newest target. Every town has a bounty board, a crosshair indicates its location. When the crosshair glows orange, it means there are new bounties to collect. There will be up to three bounties you can accept. There is no limit to the number of criminals you can track down.

Once you have accepted the bounty the target will be marked on the map. Each of the bounties has a time limit and the only way you can stop the time from expiring is by either capturing or killing your target. Although you get paid more if you manage to arrest the criminal and bring them in you will find there will be instances where you will have no choice but to kill your bounty. Taking a bounty dead or alive requires two very different strategies, so you need to decide beforehand which one to use.

Taking a Bounty Alive

This requires a stealthy approach to take a bounty alive as you will need to sneak up on the target and knock them out. When you’ve gotten up behind a bounty target undetected, a prompt will appear which will let you knock them out. This though only applies to the gang boss with the bounty on his head and not his guards which you can kill. Bounties can only be knocked out non-lethally when they are caught unaware, when you manage to do so you just need to follow the prompt to arrest them and retreat through the enemy camp with a handcuffed hanger-on while taking down any gang members that get in your way. Keep in mind that live-caught bounties can be sprung from jail by gang members who will then try to gun you down at some point later in the game.

Dead Bounty

If you decide trying to take a bounty alive is too risky, and you don't want to take any chances, the alternative is to take the bounty in cold. This is straight forward, simply raid the enemy camp with all guns blazing, killing everyone, including the boss with the bounty on his head. After the gunfight has finished you need to loot the boss's corpse to find the necessary proof of the kill.

To claim your reward regardless if the bounty is dead or alive you need to return to the town you accepted the bounty and talk to the sheriff there.
