Unlike the actual game board where you are introduced to the game by playing a pre-started game setup to familiarize you with several important sections of the game, in this mobile app version of Terra Mystica, an interactive tutorial will run you through compartmentalized instances where players are taught how to access the game’s interface and understand much of the basics.

However, having a newbie (someone that has never laid eyes on the game ever like us) play the tutorial section of the game would prove to be rather useless and somewhat makes “having to understand the game” a bit more discouraging with all the jargon terms thrown to you all at once.

This is probably the only advantage of having to play the actual Board Game prior to playing the mobile app version – as it’s tutorial procedure can truly engage you with the actual flow of the game and at the same time introduce you with the different important sections of the game including differences of the factions’ initial cult setup, their generation of income in contrast to the structures, and the transcendence of the tokens in the three bowls of power which in our personal opinion, which the mobile app version of the game might have probably lacked.

Nonetheless, it offers players to check online manuals from where they could check the Governing Rules of the game, which is most likely (and should have been) the go-to place for newbies in the first place. It is to note though that understanding the game by reading the rulebook is no simple task at all. In our case, learning the game by heart meant having to check out our local game-board gaming hub and watching the enthusiasts play it live (and having to ask them how they’ve concluded pretty much every action they did) and compared how it worked in the digital version of the game.
