Karts in Team Sonic Racing are categorised into three different classes, these are Speed, Technique, and Power. Each kart in these classes will have different stats which will have a profound effect on how you will race. One thing you need to take into consideration when picking a racer is that doing so will lock your team to the rest of the characters in that team. Our 'Choosing a Racer Guide' will help you to pick the best kart for your playstyle.

The Speed Class relates to how fast the kart is able to get around the track. Characters in this Class will have karts that have the highest top speeds and will have no problem catching the pack or extending a lead out front. They will also have a Radical Burst ability which enables them to briefly defend themselves against enemy vehicles. This ability is activated automatically when executing a second-level boost. The downside of karts in the Speed Class is they have low acceleration, for them to reach top speed requires plenty of boost.
The Technique Class karts have the best handling and cornering along with decent speed. Karts in this Class will not suffer speed penalties for going off-road which enables them to search for shortcuts which would be too costly to try with other classes. Although this off-track ability is useful for catching up to the pack if you are behind you need to remember that if you are out front your non-technique teammates won't be able to follow your gold slipstream over those areas.
Karts in the Power Class are robust and have the ability to hit obstacles and barriers without slowing down. They will also not spin out when they get hit by items or obstacles. The downside to these karts is they have the lowest top speed of the three classes which mean you have to rely on Rings and other boost methods to be fast. On certain courses karts in the Power Class are able to use their bulldozing ability to reveal secret routes and shortcuts that are otherwise inaccessible which teammates can also use.
