How to Level Up in Salt and Sacrifice

Leveling up your character is crucial in Salt and Sacrifice in order to be powerful enough to defeat the bosses that are scattered throughout the world. The game does not offer a tutorial on how this is done so take a look at this How to Level Up guide to find out how.

What is Salt

Before you can level up your character in Salt and Sacrifice you will need to collect 'Salt', which essentially functions as XP. To acquire Salt you will need to head out on Mage Hunts to devour Mage Hearts, the amount of Salt you earn increases with the more challenging the opponent. You can keep track of the amount of Salt you have gathered by looking at the Salt counter which is located in the lower left hand portion of the screen. The that is underneath the amount of Salt you have collected indicates how close you are to leveling up. Only when this bar is filled will you have the ability to level up your character.

It is important to remember when you accrue Salt that you will only be able to use it when you are alive. If your character dies you will lose all the Salt you've been carrying. You can however recover your Salt if you return to the area you died but if you fall once more on the way there, it's gone forever.

Where to Level Up

When you have collected enough Salt to level up you need to make your way back to Pardoner's Vale by using any of the obelisks in the area and selecting the 'Return to Camp' option. Once you have returned you need to go left from Champion Hera, ascend the stairs to the vendor, then up the next flight of stairs to their right. Then head to the Tirfaul Idol and bring up the menu with the option to level up.

How to Level Up

If you have not collected enough Salt to complete any of the upgrades the message 'Insufficient Salt' will appear, otherwise you will be able to level up. Alternatively, you can choose the 'Tree of Skill' option to unlock additional skills and class abilities. You can only complete these upgrades at this location and keep in mind that once you choose to rest at an obelisk, enemies in the area that are not major bosses will respawn.
