Last Updated:

In Fire Emblem Engage, you get to play through the game by completing different chapters that provide you with the main story, as well as battles. In between these battles, you can explore locations in order to acquire materials, but you will also notice that there are animals that you can interact with. In this page, we’ll be checking out how you can adopt animals and raise them at your Farmyard at the Somniel in order to get some good rewards.

Fire Emblem Engage is a latest installation for the critically-acclaimed Fire Emblem series, offering a fresh approach to the tried-and tested tactical, turn-based JRPG formula fans have seen in recent years. Players are treated with the return of the Triangle System, weapons with no durability, and of course, the fresh new Emblem/Bond Ring mechanic.

Overview

When completing the game’s tutorial, you will get to explore your current location after battle. You can run around and talk to your allies, as well as pick up items from the ground that have some sparkles on it. You will also notice that there are some animals nearby just relaxing. You cannot interact with these animals from the tutorial’s exploration, but later on you will be able to adopt them!

Unlocking animals for adoption: One of the features at the Somniel is the Donation Board, here, you will be able to allocate funds to each country of the Kingdom in order for you to increase the resources that you can gather, as well as unlock which animals can be adopted.

You can only donate to countries that you have been to. As an example, you can donate to Firene when starting out, and unlock the Firenese Cat, Calisson Chicken, and Mere Donkey. Each country has Donation levels up to 5, and they provide higher exploration rewards as well as provide animals that can be adopted.

You should also take note that some animals can appear in multiple countries during exploration. Here are the list of available animals, as well as the countries they can appear on:

Adopt animals from Exploration

Once you have the specific animals unlocked from the Donation section at the Bulletin Board, you can find and interact with them during exploration. You can enlarge and check the mini-map for yellow dots, this will mean there are animals that can be adopted. If you haven’t unlocked the donation requirements yet, you’ll be provided with a message that says you do not have enough information about taking care of that animal.

If you interact with an animal that has been unlocked through the Donation board, you will be given the option to adopt them so they can be taken under your care. Animals that have been adopted will be sent to the Farmyard house at the Somniel.

Using animals at the Farmyard

Once you have adopted animals, you can head to the Farmyard at the Somniel in order for them to help you out. You can check the Somniel map and look for a place on the right-side that has a Pawprint on it, or you can directly fast travel to the Farmyard. From there, you can choose which animals can graze around the yard by interacting with the barn door.

Once the animals have been chosen, they’ll rest at the Farmyard area and provide you with items on your next visit after a battle or chapter has been finished, similar to how you can acquire items at the orchard. The type of animal that you use will affect which item you can collect as well. Here’s the list of items available for farming, as well as the animals that are required:

With this in mind, you can swap out the animals based on your needs. Basically, you can acquire ingredients from a lot of animals which will help out in cooking. You will also notice that the Dogs can help you out in acquiring Ingots which can help out in upgrading your weapons as well as purchasing outfits.

If you wish to focus on improving your relationships with the characters at the Somniel as well as getting stat boosts, then use the ingredients to cook up some meals. Our suggestion, however, would be to use the Dogs instead since you can still acquire ingredients from other means such as the orchard or through fishing. Ingots are valuable resources which will help max out the capable strength of your team!
