Top 10 Scariest Pokemon
#5 - The Ghost Pokemon Family
Coming in at number five is the Ghost Pokemon Family, the original terrors of the Pokemon World. Much like the Reaper Family, it was decided to keep these three together. No need to excluded any of them, because each of them rightfully deserves to be on this list. I mean... Just look at them! No one would want these things to haunt their dreams!
Let's begin their analysis with Gastly. Gastly looks like and is a ball of gas, with sharp vampire teeth. This Pokemon is frightening, but what's even more frightening is what it will do to you. Gastly will use its body to suffocate and kill its prey. Its Pokedex Entry from Pokemon Silver explains this pretty thoroughly, "Its thin body is made of gas. It can envelop an opponent of any size and cause suffocation." Straightforward? Yes. Ghastly? Indeed.
Next in this family tree is Haunter, who might be the most terrifying of the three. "By licking, it saps the victim's life. It causes shaking that won't stop until the victims demise." (Pokemon Yellow Entry) Haunter's lick is so horrid; there's nothing else that can explain it. It licks you to steal your life force, but the secondary effect causes you to have a seizure until you die. That sounds so painful and drawn out. But the worst part is Haunter's demeanor. It finds everything, and I mean everything, funny. It's easy to imagine someone seizuring-out as it laughs at their demise. Horrific.
The last of the three is Clefable's Shadow... I mean Gengar. The earliest Pokedex Entry paint Gengar as a simple heat stealer (who had a wicked terrifying design), but it wasn't until Pokemon Silver when it was truly feared. Its Pokemon Silver Pokedex Entry states, "To steal the life of its target, it slips into the preys shadow and silently waits for an opportunity." When it says it waits for an opportunity, it's easy to assume they mean strike/kill. Not something you should take likely. This family... You want to avoid them at all cost, especially Haunter.

Well, Gengar will still be my favorite pokemon no matter what. ;) Second fav is Gastly, and next fav is Haunter. (And I love how Wikipedia says Gengar is popular with males. I'm female. ^_^)
But Pokedex entries can't describe every individual pokemon's behavior. Gastly in "The Tower of Terror" episode, the Gastly in "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak," and Officer Jenny's Gastly all had different behaviors and personalities. It's like how if pokemon could write a pokedex entry of human beings, they might say something like "Human beings rob, murder, torture, and many other things I would prefer not to say." But clearly not all human beings do that. Just like Ash's friend Haunter didn't have any desire to lick Ash or his friends to death. The "Tower of Terror" episode Gengar was definitely a lot friendlier and more benign than the Gengar in "The Ancient Puzzle of Pokemopolis" too.
But aside from these things, this article was fun to read. ^_^
Hypno can be FRIENDLY!!!!!!!! If he can eat your dreams he can also eat your nightmares. Which is good. And here's a sneak peak of my list. Scariest Pokemon ever:Darkrai
This list totally needs Darkrai...
Yep.
in the original Japaneses version it doesn't say Dusknoir takes people to the "spirit world" it say it takes them to the UNDERWORLD.
No Darkrai? Dude he feeds off people's nightmares and he can do that from 4 miles away, also no giratina but these pokemon are horrifying. And why is spoink in the mentions????
Spoink isn't a Pokemon that didn't make the cut. Splint is downright NOT scary
