Top 10 Hidden PS2 Gems

1. Skygunner

Flight games are woefully underappreciated. It is somewhat understandable, though. Few games of the genre are actually released, and due to the nature of flight games (typically) needing a variety of airplanes to keep a player happy, they tend to fall into the category of a 'military' gameā€¦ because only the military and military-like bodies can have cool fighter jets and stealth planes. In addition, much like racing titles, the controls for a flight game can make or break the title, and there are many cases where a decent idea goes to waste due to sloppy controls.

For one reason or another, a number of flight simulators came out for the PlayStation 2. The most popular by far was the Ace Combat series, and most of them followed suit with the 'military' trope. However, Skygunner is quite a different experience. It's a far more arcade like adventure, with cartoony graphics and far less realism. As such, it appeals to a much wider audience, since Skygunner ditches the typical drab settings and plot of most simulators of its generation.

Of course, Skygunner also holds up well in the gameplay department, including controls. It's a pretty short game, but with three different characters to try out (sort of representing the difficulty levels of the title), there's a fair amount of replayability available. Skygunner is well worth tracking down, and is still decently priced, making it a great deal for those looking for a PS2 gem to pick up.

Conclusion:

There you have it, ten great hidden PS2 gems. There's so many, though, that quite a few have been left off this list!
