04. Guitar Hero 3
Long considered to be the leader in the music-rhythm genre, the GH series offered your typical gamer the chance to put an Elvis-like snarl on their face, swing the next of their fake guitar around with exaggerated macho grace, and otherwise pretend even for a moment that, you know, they were in a rock band, playing a mean guitar. Or bass. Bass is cool.
The thing about that is even if you can play Stairway to Heaven in one of these games, you still can't play Stairway to Heaven. Just saying.
The next most onerous and life-sucking Achievement on our list of the Top 10 rage-inducing is easily found in Guitar Hero 3.
The Inhuman Achievement (15G)Complete Through the Fire and Flames on Expert
So here is the thing - this one does not require you to score gold on the song Through the Fire and Flames on Expert Difficulty - you just need to FINISH the song. If that sounds simple to you, well then you have never actually played Guitar Hero 3. It is not simple. In fact it is nigh-on impossible, unless that is you are willing to put in thousands of hours of practice to develop the level of hand-eye coordination and finger tapping skills required.
We are betting you are not. Which is why this one in addition to making this list, also gets marked up as one of those that you know, they never expected more than say 1% of gamers to actually unlock.
Check it out though - if the studio that made the game really was shooting for 1% of gamers to unlock this one, then it also gets marked down as an abject failure, because the percentage isn't even CLOSE to 1%!
Among other things, the website TrueAchievements.com tracks unlock percentages for Achievements, and you may be shocked at the totals for this one on the site... Of the 90,878 tracked gamers who have Guitar Hero 3 and who are members of the site, only 453 have completed it (that is 0.50% or HALF of ONE PERCENT!).
Considering that the site happens to be one of the ones that a lot of the serious Achievement Hunters who game belong to, that means it has a larger than average selection of hard core gamers, which means that it is pretty safe to guess that in a similar number of regular gamers, the total is going to be way less than half-of-one-percent.
