The Top 10 Most Frustrating Xbox LIVE Achievements

09. Hexic HD

Considering that this one was a freebie that came pre-loaded on the hard drive of your premium Xbox 360 back in the day, it received much wider play than it might otherwise have had, and therein lies the problem.

A highly-addictive and easy to play puzzle game that is reminiscent of Bejeweled, the game was designed by Alexey Pajitnov, the Russian game designer that gave the world Tetris - another wickedly addictive puzzle game.

Like Bejeweled Hexic HD involves dropping gem-like tiles down in patterns, but with Hexic instead of simply lining them up and swapping squares, you're rotating groups of three hexagon tiles. The ultimate goal is to eliminate a sufficient number to clear the screen by reaching the required score.

The trick is to build larger and larger collections of like tiles for better scores, and therein lies the rub, because the lip-biting, tongue chewing Achievement from Hexic HD may actually be beyond the abilities of the vast majority of gamers - and we include Chuck Norris in that pool!

Grand Pearl Pooh-Bah (25G)

Surround one piece with six black pearls.

Without question the most difficult to achieve in the game, the player must surround one piece with 6 Black Pearls - those being rather rare. Most Hexic pros claim that obtaining as many Starflower sets in the beginning levels as you can and taking great care to arrange the pearls that result is the only way to do it.

While that is good advice, even with video examples the nature of the game is such that it is easier to make a mistake than to make a right-move, because if any 3 Black Pearls end up making a cluster before you can manage to make them into a ring, the game ends.

This one was clearly intended for the elite of the hard core Hexic gamers - or it maybe qualifies as one of those gamer-baiting Achievements that we were never actually intended to unlock. Who can say? One thing we do know, it is the most popular rage-quit Achievement in the puzzle genre.
