The Top 10 Most Frustrating Xbox LIVE Achievements

01. Mafia 2

Mafia 2 was, when it was released, a darling title for gamers who enjoy action-adventure shooters with RPG elements. You not only got to step back into a World War II era major American city that was a sort of fusion of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia with a little bit of New Jersey thrown in, you were also treated to a morality tale in which a dirty rat eventually got his comeuppance.

Of course the justice that was dished out in a very minor scene in the game only can be appreciated if you were one of the gamers who played the game to which this one is a sequel - Mafia - so that you fully understood the relationships - and of course got goosebumps hearing the Lords of Brooklyn song Lake of Fire that was its theme. Heck, we couldn't play this without that song being in our heads...

The number one slot for this type of list should contain a very profound entry - and in this case it does. But only if you have actually played this game and so understand and appreciate why it is profoundly awful and, yes, rage-inducing...

Explorer (10G)

Travel a total of 1,000 miles in vehicles in 'Jimmy's Vendetta.'

First it will help if you have not yet played it to understand that unlike a lot of games with very large worlds, Mafia 2 did not really have a large world as there were no loops. The city and the countryside was one flat map, which meant that by the time you got through the main game minus any DLC you will have fully explored the entire map, driven down every street, and practically know every building by sight.

That being the case, the title that they gave this Achievement is a tad bit misleading.

Another point ala rage is the fact that when you are actually driving in the game, there are only two basic highways to drive on - everything else is city streets - and your average speed even on the highways is rarely ever going to go above 60MPH.

Now do the math... And imagine you are a gamer who places a high value on unlocking ALL of the Achievements in a game. Now imagine that you HAVE unlocked ALL of the Achievements in Mafia II before the DLC is applied, then you get the DLC and you encounter this one.

This life-sucking, massive time-wasting pointless 1,000 miles of repetitive driving over the same roads and there is nothing you can do or find in the game to even remotely make it interesting.

You might then come to understand why the vast majority of Achievement Hunters felt that this Achievement was the game designers way of flipping them the bird. Seriously.

In the End

What we are left with are 10 rage-inducing life-sucking often impossible Achievements that, even so, that little voice in the back of your head whispers: 'Hey, we can do this!'

Often enough it is not a question of if you can do it, but should you?

We imagine that, thanks to the wide variety of games out there, you probably have a few Achievements you think better belong on this list, so we invite you to make use of the comments section below to share your entries here.

Comments about our choices are welcome too, but keep it constructive - don't just say our choices were not as good as X, please explain why!

Now if you will excuse us, we only have 223 miles left to go for Explorer...
