I've never married Gustafa, but I've been through all his heart scenes, so here they are. The first red heart - Leave your farm on a sunny day when you're sure Gustafa is awake. He'll play the first part of a song for you, if you don't run away. Be careful about what answers you choose. This event can take place in spring.
The second red heart - Walk into Gustafa's yurt (the tent thingy). No one knows if it needs to be sunny, but I usually go with sunny days, just because it's more likely to happen. This event takes place from summer onward, and can't happen in spring. The third heart event - Walk out of your house on a sunny day, towards the afternoon. Gustafa says he came to look around. Must take place from fall onward.
The fourth heart event - This can only happen in winter or if you're really lucky, late fall, at night. Exit the Inner Inn. I won't spoil it, but Gustafa can be very sweet. Keep this in mind - Even though you should view all four heart events before you propose, because it's less likely he'll turn the feather down, you can propose before you see all four events, as long as your love interest has all four hearts. Still, this is a risk to avoid, as he sometimes turns the feather down, leaving both of you upset and your love interest losing a heart. Gustafa has a pretty eractic schedule - he'll wake up at eleven on some days, and seven the next. Peek inside on his sofa to look at his hearts.
