I have not played Silver in about 4 months and I restarted my game a couple of days ago. I got to the 1st gym leader and then I saved my game. I tried to play it the next day and on the start menu it did not say Continue it just said New Game and Options, why is it doing this.

This exact thing happened to my Yellow version I just found. I think that you did too many cheats and glitch attempts or the game pack got corrupted from not playing. Either way, you can't do anything so I'd get a new game.

The memory of your game is dying. Shigeru Miyamoto himself actually said that GameBoy and GameBoy Color games' memory lasts only about five years, unlike GBA and DS games. The same thing has happened to my Silver, my Gold still works but the time and day system is all messed up.
