You get the stones from Mt Moon(moon stone) or else take certain Pokemon to Bill grandpa atThe Sea Cottage (Lickitung everstone) (Oddish Leaf) (staru or starmie water)

After awakening them inside the Burned Tower, they will appear at random around Johto.

Moon Stone: on Monday nights head to Mt. Moon. There is an outer quarters area that you have to reach where you will find Clefairies dancing around a rock. Walk up to the rock and press A to obtain the Moon Stone.

Sun Stone: win forst place in the Bug Catching Contest.

All of the other stones can be obtained from Bill's Grandpa north of Cerulean City in a little cottage. Present him the Pokemon he hints that he wishes to see and you will be rewarded.

<b>Note</b>: Jakeymartin is totally wrong... Gary will not battle you until the very end of the game (he's known as Blue in this game), and Mew nor Mewtwo can be viewed anywhere in this game unless you receive them in a trade, and Gary doesn't possess those Pokemon. Ultimately, his response is bogus.
