How to Extend your Battery Life

Published by SuperCheats Staff on Sep 9th 2013
Your 3DS' battery life depends on several factors. Here are some simple yet helpful tips on how to extend your battery life.

  1. Adjust your brightness and Enable Power Saving Mode
This is done by pressing the sun-like icon in the upper-left corner of the lower screen in the Home. From there, you can decrease the brightness and turn on the Power Saving mode

  2. Turn off your wireless communication when the unit is in standby. Turn it on only if you want to use online features such as Spotpass, updates and downloading DLCs. If you're going out and will be bringing the 3DS with you, turn the wireless on to enable Streetpass.

  3. Turn off 3D.
Slide down that 3D slider down if you're not using 3D and simply want to maximize your battery life.

  4. Use earphones or headsets instead of using full speaker volume.
Not only that the 3DS' built in speakers isn't that effective in noisy environments, it's volume isn't that high as well to improve the sound quality. Using good quality earphones will allow you to hear sounds better.

  5. Charge the 3DS when you're not using it.
It takes around 3 1/2 hours to fully charge the battery while it's off. The charge can be shorter especially if the system is not fully drained or critically low when it is charged. The system can be used while it is charging however this will increase the charging time.

  6. Remove the battery if you're not going to use the 3DS for a long time.

  7. If the 3DS won't be used for a long period of time, it is strongly advised to remove the battery to prevent leakage and damage to your console.

  8. Use third-party battery expansions
(Disclaimer: This requires buyer's discretion. Nintendo doesn't encourage use of non-official accessories and it may void your warranty. Study your options before deciding.)
