Similar to the first game you will need to make assaults on the procedurally generated castle. Each time you die will mean attempting the assault again with your heir which results in choosing from one of three descendants of your family, all with different traits, classes, weapons, talents, and spells. This basically means your character will be improving with each run. At the start of a new run you will also be able to improve your weapons and armor, this How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor guide will tell you how this is done.
You will be forced to start Rogue Legacy 2 from scratch with a new descendant each time your character dies. The new heir you now control will be an improvement on your last character and by purchasing the Blacksmith upgrade for your castle you will also be able to upgrade their weapons and armor which are carried over after death. You will be able to purchase the Blacksmith upgrade for your castle when you find a blueprint for the first time.
Once you have the Blacksmith Upgrade you will be able to talk to the Blacksmith before you enter the castle on each run and spend the gold coins you earned destroying items and defeating enemies on the previous run you died on upgrading your weapons and armor. It is essential that you do this as it will make you better on subsequent runs. Remember that weapons and armor carry over after death so the more you upgrade them the easier subsequent runs will be.
