How to get Gas Mask Filters

In Metro Exodus there will be different locations that you will not be able to explore due to them being polluted by toxic air and unless you know how to get gas mask filters for your gas mask these areas will be off limits to you as you will not be able to survive there.

Finding Gas Mask Filters

Make sure when you have to use a gas mask to explore a building you search the rooms you enter as very often you will find filters hidden in cabinets and drawers. Make it a habit to search all the rooms in a building in order to replenish damaged stockpiles.

Craft Gas Mask Filters

If you are at a location that has a workbench and are willing to pay the small price in resources you will be able to get gas mask filters by crafting them. It is also possible to craft gas mask filters using the backpack if you are nowhere near a location that has a workbench and need to get through a toxic location. Before you venture out on a mission it is advised that you take an extra supply of filters with you because although the gas mask will protect you when you enter an infected area that has high levels of radiation they do require regular filter changes. Be sure to take off your gas mask when indoor, as it will save your filters.

Checking Gas Mask Filters

It is important that you constantly check your air filter timer which is visible on Artyom's left arm. The timer will only count down when you are in an area with toxic air. If the timer is not going down it means you can take your gas mask off by holding down on the directional pad. If you hear a high-pitched beep and see a notification to change your filter, it means you have less than one minute remaining before it will be completely worn out.

Check out our Where are the Workbenches page to see the locations of where you will find a workbench from which you can craft gas mask filters.
