The Tacarigua SideQuests

The quests that take place on and around the second island, which is called Tacarigua and contains the Inquisition Prison Colony and Farms, the Jungle, and the Pirate's Den and Hideout.

(2.1.1) Tacarigua
The village on island that also contains the Pirate's Den, this Inquisition outpost is where slaves and prisoners like the captured pirate Largo are sent to work as forced labor.  The Black Betty brings you here, and you can then begin to complete quests, gain XP, and gather resources.

(2.1.2) Tacarigua > Kitchen Help
One of the first quest opportunities you will encounter in this new village, when you speak to the guard at the entrance in addition to warning you to be on your best behavior he tells you that the Cook in the Cook Shed may have work for you.  When you talk to the Cook he asks you for help in the kitchen, but you must confess that you know nothing about kitchen work or cooking -- he then suggests that Patty would be an ideal helper, and if she will take that job he has messenger work that you can do to earn some gold!

You will need to improve your Cunning in order to improve your Silver Tongue ability, which will allow you to convince Patty to take the Kitchen Job, which she naturally feels is beneath her dignity as a Pirate Lass.  Once you have convinced her to take the job this will flag the quest Grog for the Guards.

(2.1.3) Tacarigua > Grog for the Guards
Now that Patty has agreed to help out in the Kitchen the Cook gives you the quest to deliver Grog to the Guards who are on the duty stations outside of town.  He supplies you with five bottles of Grog for you to deliver.  Simply seek out and speek with the Guards to complete that quest!

(2.1.4) Tacarigua > A Fat Roast
During the quest Let Thompkins Know, which is an offshoot of the quest Grog for the Guards, he offers you this quest, which requires you to kill a Prize Warthog.  The hog is nearby up the path in the grass; simply head over and kill it.  You can do this with or without Thompkins help.  Once you have killed and looted it, head back and talk to Thompkins to complete this quest.

(2.1.5) Tacarigua > Let Thompkins Know
After you deliver the Grog from the quest Grog for the Guards to Gilles in the sugar cane fields he orders you to inform another guard, named Thompkins, that the Grog has been delivered.  Thompkins can be found around the corner from the shed where you encounter Gilles, and in addition to offering several other quests, is the Firearms Merchant.

(2.1.6) Tacarigua > Meat for the Cook
When you complete the quest Let Thompkins Know and admit that you delivered the Grog from the Cook, Thompkins gives you this quest along with some boar meat to deliver to the Cook.  Simply deliver the meat to the Cook to complete the quest.

(2.1.7) Tacarigua > Pirate Post
After you talk to Roquefort, the Captain of the Guards, he hires you to deliver a message to the Pirates at their Den, and to carry back their reply.  He pays you 100 gold now, and gives you the sealed letter, which flags this quest -- and promises 100 gold more when you return!  He tells you that the Pirate Den is to the north or northwest...

When you reach the Pirates Den, which is on the far side of the bridge through the tunnel near Vasco's Tower, you look up the bartender in the Public House there, a Pirate named Booze, and you deliver the still-sealed letter.  Booze also happens to be the local distiller, and the letter is a demand for payment for stolen sugar -- and sugar also happens to be a commodity that Booze is badly in need of!  So after he reads the letter in front of you he writes his reply and gives it to you to carry back.  Delivery of the letter from the Roquefort essentially ends the quest -- returning with the reply is bonus.

(2.1.8) Tacarigua > Bounty
After you speak with the governor and buy the map of the island from him you can be briefed by him on the three escaped slaves, which he is offering a reward of 100 gold for each of their heads (totaling 300 gold).  You have to decide for yourself if that is something that you are morally opposed to or not, and let that guide you as to whether you flag the quest or not.  I am including it here in case you do decide to do it.

From Vasco's Tower simply take the right path down the hill and you will encounter the trio of armed savages midway down the path.  Kill them and take their heads!

(2.1.9) Tacarigua > The Clothes of a Pirate
This quest is related to the quest Freeing Largo; you find that the Pirate Largo who you met in the jail in the Crystal Fortress back in Caldera has been locked up in Tacarigua due to his causing trouble in the cane fields.  All of his possessions have been taken from him by the corrupt Guards, and he details them for you, telling you where each can be found, and you are tasked with recovering them.

The Red Head Scarf: Has been sold to Warden Riley; to recover it you will need to challenge Riley to a duel and defeat him.

The Black Pearl Earring: You will need to learn the skill Pickpocket to recover this. It is in the pocket of the corrupt Guard who stole Largo's kit, who is named Carter.

Worn Boots: You can find these in the guard's barracks at night near Pedro's bed.  Sneak in after midnight and steal them.  You may want to wear them too if you have not bought a pair of shoes or boots, since they offer basic protection and look rather cool...

Carter the Guard: You will locate Carter sitting on a bench in front of one of the buildings up the hill, and you have a dialogue option in which you tell him that you heard he sells old clothes -- using that will grant you some XP and open his Merchant Menu.

Among the clothing items that Carter sells are:

Old Bandana (Cost: 100 gold - Bladeproof: 2 / Bulletproof: 2)
Largo's Leather Shirt (Cost: 150 gold - Bladeproof: 6 / Bulletproof: 5)
Old Shirt (Cost: 75 - Bladeproof: 3 / Bulletproof: 3)
Colorful Trousers (Cost: 150 gold - Bladeproof: 2 / Bulletproof: 2)

None of these are actually the quest items you need, which you already know how you must obtain...  If you collected and equipped the Dirty Shirt from the hut it offers you Bladeproof: 3 / Bulletproof: 3 stats, so you can improve your stats if you have the gold to buy them - you should try to outfit your character as soon as you can and you can do that here!

(2.1.10) Tacarigua > Largo's Clothes
After you free Largo you have the option to return his kit to him, and when you choose to do so he seems both utterly shocked and very grateful to you!  After you pass him all of the belongings that he clearly never expected to see again, he rewards you with 1000 gold and you get some Glory out of the deal as well.

Largo changes into his kit, and then takes off running, expecting that you will follow him, and leads you on to the Pirates Den and freedom!

(2.1.11) Tacarigua > Freeing Largo
To free Largo you will need to seek out the Pirate Smith named Stone in the Pirate's Den and obtain a Lockpick from him, which you can then return with to Largo, who will teach you how to use it as part of the process of breaking him out of the cell!  To get the pick you will need some of his possessions that were taken by the Guards -- see the quest The Clothes of a Pirate for more information.

You must recover either Largo's Red Head Scarf or his Black Pearl Earring in order to prove to Stone that you were sent by Largo and so to obtain the pick.

(2.1.12) Tacarigua > Follow Largo
Once you have completed all of the pre-release requirements -- obtaining Largo's stolen kit, obtaining the Lockpick from the Pirate Smith, and delivering the pick to Largo in the jail at the Port -- Largo will open his cell door and have himself an escape!  Once you choose to go with him, you will need to follow him and protect him from attacks by beasts and monsters as he is not armed and cannot defend himself!

He will lead you on as direct a route to the Pirates Den as he can manage, and once you all arrive outside of the Pub there, he will part company with you, on his way inside the Pub to get a libation of liquid refreshment!

(2.1.13) Tacarigua > A Hungry Slave
In the slave hut in town at night you will find that the slaves have all gone to bed, but you can speak to the only named slave there, Asad who was the fourth slave in the group of four slaves who tried to escape just before you arrived in the area.  Asad was caught in the attempt, while the other three made it away into the Jungle.  Asad is being punished by not being given food rations, so he is a very hungry slave...

When you talk to him he asks you for food -- so give him some!  After you do that he briefs you on the three escaped slaves, revealing that no matter who you are or what you say, they will kill you on sight, so the only way you can deal with them is to kill them.  That information pretty much removes any of the lingering doubts with respect to whether or not you should fee; bad about the matter or whether you should or should not have flagged that quest in the first place.

After he warns you about their very violent nature and the fact that they will attack no matter what you say or do, Asad also warns you of their location, ostensibly so that you can avoid going there, but of course now you know where to avoid going, you also know where to go if you want to complete the quest and collect your bounty!

(2.1.14) Tacarigua > The Termite Plague
When you first meet Jack he complains about the Termite Plague that is effecting his life and the business, and asks you to deal with it.  Eliminating the Termites completes this quest.

(2.1.15) Tacarigua > 10 Bloody Roots
You meet Elia in the Rum Works above the Pub in Pirates Den.  He is the brewer there, and from him you flag this quest.  Either gather the 10 Bloodroot you need or purchase it from Colby, but he will only trade you 9 of them for 3 bottles of Rum.  You will need to harvest the 10th root yourself.  Once you have all 10 of them, hand them in to Elia to complete this quest and obtain 100 Glory Points and the recipe for this libation.

(2.1.16) Tacarigua > The Sugar Trade
After talking to Booze in the Pun in Pirates Den he asks you to strike a deal with the Inquisition, via his man in the port, Pedro, to pay gold for Sugar so that he can resume the commercial distillation of Rum at Pirates Den.
