Gummi

Gummi

No, not Gummy, Gummi. You use Gummi ships to travel to other worlds. Beware, however, as Heartless Gummi ships also travel the space routs.

To build a Gummi ship, you use Gummi blocks. Gummi blocks are a lot like Legos: they appear in many shapes, sizes, and colors, and they bond together easily.

From Ansem's Reports, we see that Gummi blocks are elastic and rubber like in texture and simply placing them next to each other allows them to form a firm bond. Gummi blocks are likely the remnants of the barriers that separated the worlds. When Ansem released the Heartless, the barriers fell apart and Gummi blocks rained down on all the worlds.

When you first meet Donald and Goofy, they have their own base-level ship called either Highwind or whatever you chose to name it, assuming you beat Rikku in the race on Destiny Island.

To travel to other worlds, select a world with the left joy stick and press X. Note that you can only travel to the words immediately around the one you are currently at via Normal Drive.

When building with Gummi blocks, it's important to note that you can use the same block for multiple ships. IE, if you have 1 Thunder-G, you can use it in multiple blueprints.

=================
Your HUD
=================

HUD

When your flight starts, you'll be given a new HUD.

- Blue bar is your energy. Lasers, Osmose, and Drain-G all use energy

- Green bar is armor. The more Gummi you have equipped, the larger this bar gets. If this bar runs out, you die.

- Orange bar is the Charge Gauge. You'll use this up when you press the accelerate button. It will recharge after a bit. Must have a Haste/2-G equipped.

- Red dots are the shield. The shield will absorb up to 5 hits, protecting your armor. You must have a Shield/2-G equipped.

- The large box on the left is the Radar. It shows incoming objects. You must have a Scan-G equipped.

==============
Controls
==============

You can customize the controls in the Gummi Garage, right down to what size cannon you want assigned to what button. The default controls are:

Decelerate: Circle
Accelerate: Square
Transform: L1
Lock Fire: Hold R1
Cannons (all): X
Lasers (all): Triangle
Arm (Drain, Osmose): Right Analog Stick

=======================================================================
What Awaits You in Space
=======================================================================

Space is a very adventuresome place it seems. There are all sorts of floating shiny things lurking around.

Armor

- Pick this up to heal some of your armor. The amount you get depends on what cockpit you're using.

Power

- This refills 1 blue power block.

Shield

- Pick this up to regain some of your shield.

Special

- This fully heals everything: Armor, Power, and Shield.

Gummi Block

- This contains a Gummi Block, probably off of a ship you shot down. It will give you one random Gummi Block.

Blueprint

- This is a blueprint of one of the ships you shot down. Picking this up allows you to easily make the design in the Gummi Garage. Be warned: most Heartless blueprints suck, and some aren't even flyable.

Obstacles

- There are several things in space that just seem to be there to be in your way. Most of them can be shot through, and even give out items.

Wormhole

- Wormholes open up after you get a Navi-G Quarter-Circlece installed by Cid. Fly into them to be taken to a new part of the galaxy, unless you don't want to be, then avoid them.

Heartless Ships

- Heartless Ships travel the space ways. They can fire anything at you that you can at them, including Cannons, Lasers, and even ramming you on kamikaze runs. They do hold one other advantage in that they seem to be able to pull Circles around your ship, coming in from behind and all sides around you.

=======================================================================
Gummi Garage
=======================================================================

While you can beat the entire game with this base level ship, the final few runs will be difficult. The optimal thing to do is at least modify the base ship with more armor, weapons, and other special Gummi.

The Gummi Garage is there for this reason. It allows you to customize your ship.

Within the Garage, you'll have several options:
- Garage: Build a ship (from blueprint or scratch)
- Gummi Ship: Pick the ship you want to fly, transform and controls
- Inventory: See all the blocks, blueprints, and upgrades you have
- Help: See generic help files
- Tutorial: Run through the ship building tutorial again
- Exit: Exit back out to the galaxy map

All of these are pretty self explanatory except for the Garage itself. This is where you can build your own ships.

To build a ship, you must first select what you want to build. You can either select a pre-made design (a green blueprint) or start from scratch (blue blueprint). Either or, you have an open blue blueprint in order to save your new ship.

Once in the Garage, you see this:

Select Mode

This is Select mode. This is the mode where you select the block you want to place.

1) Building Grid, this is where you place your blocks
2) Currently selected block
3) Currently selected Gummi type
4) How many of the current block you have
5) Next block in line
6) Previous block in line
7) What mode you're in

Use the D-pad to cycle through Gummi blocks.
If you have the Spray upgrade, you can paint your blocks by pressing Square, and use the left and right D-pad to change the color. You can also press Triangle for more color options.

Once you have found the block you want, press X or R1 to change to Place Mode.

Place Mode

Place Mode takes you one to 3-D grid. The controls can be challenging here, what with trying to control the block in 3-D space.
- D-pad controls left, right, forward, and back.
- L1 and L2 will raise you up and down a layer, respectively.
- Right joy stick controls your view of the grid
- Left joy stick controls the tilt of the block
- X places a block
- If you are highlighting a placed block, press and hold X to move it
- Circle removes a block
- Square moves the entire ship
- R1 returns to Select Mode
- R2 goes into View Mode

Remember when building a ship you need a Cockpit and at least 1 Engine.

Inspect Mode

The final mode, Inspect Mode allows you to look at the ship overall.
- X tests equipment
- Square allows you to see the specifications on it
- Triangle brings up the controls
- Circle exits out of the menus
- L1 zooms in
- L2 zooms out
- Right joy stick rotates ship
- R2 goes back to Place Mode

If you're happy with the ship you've built, you can go back to Select Mode and press Circle to exit the Garage. You will be prompted to save your ship if you want.

--== Weapon Gummi ==--

Weapon Gummi come in two forms: Cannon and Laser. Each has their own unique properties. You can have a total of 10 weapon Gummi on any one ship.

You can block weapon Gummi in by encasing them in blocks, but it wont do you any good, as they wont fire through your own blocks (they wont hurt you either).

Laser Gummi is the other form of weapons. Lasers DO use Power Consumption, though not much. They are used with the triangle button. Notes:
This is the most powerful weapon Gummi. It even has a piercing effect in that it will hit and go right through one ship and immediately lock on and hit another.

=======================================================================
Blueprint Specs.
=======================================================================

Most of these ships are very weak, and some cant even be flown. I'm not really sure why anyone would go through all the trouble of collecting all of these. Further, NONE of them have shields and NONE can transform, at least not in their original form.

Aside from the first seven (not counting Cactuar and Hyperion), all the Gummi ships are named after recurring Final Fantasy enemies, summons, and sometimes bosses.

You are definitely one of my best friends as of now. :D

I was wondering, is there any way one could make a star destroyer gummi ship? Thank you. Smile
