#5 - Kalos Starters

If you truly look at the final evolutions of the Starter Pokemon, you will quickly notice that they are some of the best starters ever released. Greninja is a Special Sweeper like no other with Protean, the same could be said with Delphox after just one (or two) Calm Mind, and Chesnaught has a niche in the defensive category with the ability Bulletproof.

Delphox is very frail, and is usually seen with either Choice Specs or Life Orb. We personally like to use the Life Orb with the combination of Fire Blast, Psyshock (for Chansey and Blissey), and Grass Knot for waters (including Primal Kyogre - yeah, it too can be KO). Since there is no use in investing in its defenses, Delphox MUST have maximum Effort Values in Special Attack and Speed, having nothing but Timid Nature.

Greninja is also usually seen with the Timid Nature and use of Life Orb, as any Choice Item would prevent it from using Protean to its advantage. (Though it can be used as a lead to set up bout spikes and toxic spikes). We like to run it with Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Dark Pulse for maximum coverage. A Hidden Power can be used for further coverage, but Grass Knot of U-turn could be subbed to switch-out of destroy heavyweights.

Chesnaught is a whole different story, being only used with its defensive stats and its Bulletproof Ability. Leftovers work great with this set, but Rocky Helmet can also be used to hurt Physical Attackers. Chesnaught loves to set traps with Spikes, and use Leech Seed to further recover lost HP. Spiky Shield helps mess with Physical Pokemon too, and Drain Punch or Wood Hammer is needed to avoid being ruined from a simple Taunt.
